1 Day Instructor-led Course

Blanchard Management Essentials is run as a one-day, in-person workshop delivered by a trained and experienced facilitator. It’s practical, engaging, and designed to help managers build real-world confidence fast.

After the session, participants get access to the Blanchard Management Essentials Challenge via Blanchard Exchange—a handy tool to help put the learning into action back on the job.

LAUNCH – You’ll watch a short live-action video and pick four real workplace scenarios to use during the session.

What the Day Looks Like

Welcome – We kick things off with a mihi, get clear on what we’re here to achieve, and behavioural norms for the session.

The Transition – Moving from being a team member to a manager can be tough. We’ll unpack the shift and what it means in day-to-day life.

Introducing the Four Core Conversations – You’ll get an overview of the key conversations every manager needs to master.

Essential Skills for Managers – Learn four simple, powerful skills to help you balance strong relationships with strong results.

Putting It All Together – See how the four skills apply in each of the four conversations:

✔️ Redirecting
✔️ Wrapping Up

Closing – You’ll leave with a clear set of next steps and personal intentions to take back to the workplace.

Virtual In-Person Course

Prefer to learn online but still want that live, interactive feel? Blanchard Management Essentials is also available as three virtual sessions (2 hours each), led by a facilitator in real time. It’s built around the core ideas from The One Minute Manager—equipping leaders with the conversation skills that build trust, boost engagement, and drive team performance.

After the course, participants can access the Blanchard Management Essentials Challenge on Blanchard Exchange—a great way to keep the learning going and apply it back on the job.



Session Breakdown

Session 1: LEARN
We explore the shift from team member to people leader—and what makes that transition tricky. You’ll learn four must-have skills for balancing great relationships with great results.

Session 2: PRACTISE (Part 1)
Get hands-on with two core conversations:
✔️ Goal Setting – How to set clear expectations together
✔️ Praising – How to acknowledge progress and boost motivation

Session 3: PRACTISE (Part 2)
Time to dig into the other two conversations:
✔️ Redirecting – What to say when things go off track
✔️ Wrapping Up – How to close the loop and reflect on what’s been achieved
We’ll wrap up with a focus on how to bring your new tools into everyday work life.
