Drs. Ken and Marjorie Blanchard incorporated The Ken Blanchard Companies in 1979 with three simple goals—to make a difference in people’s lives, to drive human worth and effectiveness in the workplace, and to help each organisation we work with become the provider, employer, and investment of choice.
In 1985 Blanchard New Zealand was one of the first Global Partners to be invited to join the Ken Blanchard Companies as an independent Blanchard® licensee.

With our background of sustainable Blanchard® brand presence in New Zealand since 1985 we enjoy a valuable depth and breadth of leadership consulting experience across the industrial, commercial and public sectors. Our licensee company was established by Malcolm Sutherland, a developer, author and consultant in governance and strategic performance systems. By operationalising governance and strategic plans through Blanchard® leadership solutions, clients were able to demonstrate appreciable results with impact. The Blanchard line quickly grew to represent a large proportion of the founding company’s business.
Across New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region, we have provided leadership and organisational development solutions to a broad range of industrial, commercial and community clients. A number of our clients have been recognised for their outstanding performance with the invitation to present their business impact stories to global audiences at the Blanchard® Client Conference in the USA. These clients include the Royal New Zealand Navy, ANZ Banking Group, Farmers Trading Company, and Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited.

- 25 years of research, development and thought leadership at The Ken Blanchard Companies culminates in the publication of Leading At A Higher Level – the definitive guide for leaders
- San Diego Magazine names The Ken Blanchard Companies as one of the Best Places to Work
- ELearning Magazine recognizes The Ken Blanchard Companies in the “Best of Leadership Content” category.

1980
- Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson meet at a party and begin collaboration on The One Minute Manager
- The One Minute Manager is self published and sells 100,000 copies in its first year
- Blanchard formally hires its Founding Associate group (Fred Finch, Pat Zigarmi, Drea Zigarmi, Laurie Hawkins, Don Carew and Eunice Parisi-Carew) who become integral to the development of Blanchard intellectual property
- Key clients for the year include Holiday Inn and Humana.
